Quarantine times

2020 is definitely the strangest year in my life time so far.

I bet all of us had different things in mind instead of what we are doing right now. I consider this period very useful though. Of course, I am not saying, it is a good thing what happened to us. It can be approached from various angles. Mine is the: how to get out of this with benefits type of approach.

Before the virus broke out, my father passed away this February. Nobody really knows what happened to him, it seemed like a normal flu and one day he just did not wake up anymore. He had his larynx taken out many years ago so he was somewhat skinny but otherwise he seemed all right. He was working with my husband one week before he became ill.

Later on, we thought that it might have been Covid that took him but we will never know this for sure as he was not tested.

After the funeral we went on a short holiday with my mom and as soon as we have returned the quarantine started.

Digital learning is an absolute advantage for us as our kids have been homeschooled before already. At least, now we receive help and support and have deadlines etc… which obviously makes it easier for the kids to keep up with their studies.

There is tons of things to organise around my dad’s house. The garden is a jungle that needs to be cleared out entirely. Years of weeds and junk have taken over the once beautifully kept garden and we are trying to find time to redeem it back from decay.

We got an old ping-pong table from friends, so now we can play in the afternoons when we don’t want to go anywhere just need some air after working or studying.

All in all it is not too bad.

We just miss the ocean, the wonderful and healthy salty breeze and the morning runs on the beach.

Here, everything is full of memories and we are always so busy. It’s a never ending to do list.

The inheritance process is still on and most probably everything will align for us to travel again only around July.

Which is fine, because we learn patience and timing until then.

Everything happens in the right time if you train your mind and heart to accept it.

And why do we want to travel back to Portugal?

First of all, because my husband’s job is there and secondly because if there will be another quarantine we would like to spend it by the beach, it is just way more healthier for our respiratory organs, than the dry continental air.

There is absolutely no point in rushing things or to stress. It might bring faster but not better results. So we are waiting patiently.

I keep it simple these days. Trying to do some in-depth self analysis. It is always hard but useful and most importantly helpful, regarding the future.

I find it very relaxing to organize our things, going through old media items, talking about memories with the kids, taking the time to explain them the homeschooling material and helping them whenever they need it.

When their or my patience runs out we just take a break and do something else and try to resume in 15 minutes. It usually works.

Nothing should be more important than peace. Because there is love in peace, everything else can wait.

We are also learning to be thankful for what we have, during this time. Trying to develop in areas where we need to. Trying to leave useless habits behind. Not easy. But it is a great time to do that.

So stay safe, try to keep it together and don’t worry if you loose it sometimes, we all do, it is just important to: realize, apologize and try to make it right.

See what you can change in your lifestyle personally to make it better later when this ends.

Little things count, little deeds add up.

Enough cliches for today, blessings to all and don’t forget to go out for a walk and marvel at every single miracle that surrounds you… it can be a flower, a bug, the sunshine or even the rain… be present.
