It was pure awesomeness. We have started our way on an afternoon from Ostend, Belgium at the end of July. Driving through the night was challenging as my godparents kept us well as they usually do, so we had a great lunch and a nice walk on the beach, however, I felt sleepy when we were about to set off to our 6 hour journey towards Mont-Saint Michel but the long awaited goal gave me motivation. We arrived some time around 3 am so I thought:
hmmm perfect, we can even rest a bit. I didn’t mind paying some extra for the parking in the lot as it was nice, empty and spacious. Little did I know, that it will be completely full the next day from the morning.
When we woke up at around 6:30, I saw a bunny hopping about next to our car. I woke up the kids and we got ourselves together. As we were walking towards the island we already felt that it will be another hot day.
To our great surprise Mont Saint Michel welcomed us empty and sleepy. Shops just started to open when we have arrived and it was low tide so we could even walk on the sand around the island. I wish we had woken up earlier so we could have seen the island surrounded by water as well. Never mind, there is always next time.
We roamed around this tiny gem of France and bought a few souvenirs. The whole visit took us about two hours. We even peeked into the church on the way up. It had beautiful rosace windows with the morning light penetrating through, giving the empty church a unique, cosy atmosphere.
We did not enter the Abbaye du Mont Saint Michel on the top though because there was a line already by the time we got there and we were just too tired to wait there.
We chose to leave this pretty sight instead, taking a few more photos on the way out. As we were walking back to our car on the wooden bridge we saw this massive amount of tourists coming on buses and by feet as well.
I felt super lucky we decided to do our visit in the early hours.
