This magical spot in Tessin or Ticino as the Italians say, is in the hills, close to the Italian border of Switzerland.
If one comes from the heart of Switzerland it is important to consider the Gotthard tunnel. It can get very busy on a Saturday morning for example. Should that happen, there is an “escape” route over the hill. It is full of curves and drives up over 2000 meters altitude but in return we can have a beautiful view of the glaciers.
Once at the Lugano area, the road will take again uphill in zig zags. Careful here, lots of bikers and hikers.
After a while we are able to see the little valley and the crystal clear emerald green mountain river.
Arriving at Ponte dei Salti, there is a parking lot and a tiny store where you can buy a few things. The shop assistant is very kind.
A 5 minute walk takes you down to the river.
A few people have jumped from the bridge when we were there. Quite a sight…
The water is cold, around 13 degrees usually, but you should go for it.
One needs to be careful with the current in the river. Jump in, swim out fast.
And it is also fun to walk around on the rocks.
