I love this city in the Basque country. It is a gem of the bay of Biscay.
We have spent a few days on the beautiful beaches of this holiday resort several times already and it is always a pleasure to return.
It is an adorable town with its multicultural atmosphere, the narrow streets, parking difficulties and the century old alleys at the beaches. This latter one is really unique. Beach la Concha even has an underground gym tucked away behind the arches. There is so much going on in this city. Street musicians on the promenade, performances on the beach, and the famous Jazz Festival and Film Festival too. Whenever we pass by, I always feel I would love to have more time to explore what this city has to offer.
The culture, for me, is a mixture of French and Spanish with a pinch of the unique Basque ingredient. A bridge between the Iberian Peninsula and Europe as you leave the Pyrenees behind or before you go uphill, depending from which direction you arrive. We usually enter the city by car. I have mostly used the underground parking, as I found the parking situation somewhat confusing on the streets. To avoid a parking fine, I opted for the safer solution. I think we paid 4 euro for an hour, or something like that. I know, not cheap, but we were close to the beach.
